Who Is Travis Stevens?
If you do BJJ you probably already know who Travis Stevens is so you can skip this section.
For readers who don’t know, he won Silver in Judo in the 2016 Olympic Games, he won the Pan American Games twice (2007, 2015), and he won a whole bunch of other stuff. He also placed 4th I believe in the 2008 Olympics.
This guy has been a high level athlete for a long time.
Last week I stumbled upon his youtube channel and it is pure gold! If you haven’t already make sure you check out the videos and subscribe. It doesn’t matter what sport you do. You will learn a ton from watching his videos.
Here is a list of reasons why Travis Stevens is a great athlete to look up to and take inspiration from:
1. He is real
So many people are fake these days. Especially on youtube. I like his channel because you can tell that Travis Stevens is real from the first video you watch.
For example, he made a whole video describing how he gets paid for Judo. He had his contracts and everything. I have not seen any other athlete put up exactly how much they make.

In another video about fund raising he responded to a few comments and told some readers to f off. So you know, that any advice he gives you is real.
Because he doesn’t bullshit.
2. Makes you want to train more
I am just getting back into the swing of things after my ACL surgery and I am starting to train every day. Just once a day but I try to train every day.
Then I saw how much Travis Stevens trains and I realized that in order to win a World championship, I need to put in at least 3 sessions every day.
I always knew that More Work = More Results but it always helps to have a real life example.
Here is a video that shows him training all day:
3. Been through major injuries and came back
This one is important for me and anybody else dealing with a major injury. It’s 2.5 months after my ACL surgery and I am on the road back to BJJ competition.
In the video below he describes how being injured when he was younger forced him to appreciate the sport and work 2x harder than anybody else.

4. Shares his experience for free
I don’t know a lot of Olympic athletes that share all this awesome information for free.
If you compete in a sport and want to achieve a high level of success, Travis Stevens is a great example to follow.
